Seniors Thomas Williams and Ashton Gronholz made sure they capped their high school careers with an exclusive state tournament trip.

Both scored a pair of goals to send top-seeded Alexandria back to state for the first time since 1996 as the Cardinals downed second-seeded Sartell-St. Stephen 4-1 Friday night at the MAC in St. Cloud.

Williams silenced the Sabres’ crowd early in the first with his quick goal 2:41 into the period with Ross Thompson and Casey Vangsness proving the helpers.
