The Minnesota State softball team swept Bemidji State Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader in which the Mavericks held the Beavers scoreless in both games, 7-0 and 9-0.

The Mavericks opened up game one in the top of the second inning with a double to left center by freshman Katie Kruse followed by a single to third base, bringing the first runner in. Minnesota State tallied another run in the top of the fourth off a throwing error by the Beavers.

The Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey program has been placed in the Midwest Regional of the 2010 NCAA Ice Hockey Championships and will play University of Michigan in the regional semifinal. The announcement came this morning in a live NCAA Tournament selection show aired on ESPN2. The Midwest Regional will be held at Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Ind. March 27-28.

Bemidji State University women’s hockey head coach Steve Sertich was inducted into the Minnesota High School Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame announced the Minnesota Hockey Coaches Association on Thursday, March 11. The honor is bestowed to coaches that have outstanding contributions to the sport of hockey in Minnesota.

“I was very humbled and honored to be included with all the great coaches of Minnesota boy’s hockey history,” Sertich said. “It’s a nice compliment to the program in Roseville that we had for a dozen years.”

The Minnesota State baseball team fell twice in nonconference twin bill Wednesday in the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis.

The Mavericks dropped a 4-3 decision in the first game and then fell by a 5-1 margin in the night cap.

The Bemidji State University Beavers (11-18-7, 9-12-7-3 WCHA) came from behind to edge the St. Cloud State women’s hockey team (15-13-8, 11-11-6-4 WCHA) by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, Feb. 27, to force and third and decisive playoff game on Sunday in the National Hockey Center.
