Katie Miller scored a team-high 16 points and Lindsey White added 13 but it wasn’t enough for ninth-seeded Menahga as they dropped a 74-41 West Sub-section 5A quarterfinal game to top-seeded Bertha-Hewitt Thursday night.

Menahga shot a frigid 24 percent (6-for-25) from the floor but made up for it with five three-pointers and converted 61 percent (14-for-23) of their free-throws. Miller had four three-pointers and White went seven-for-nine at the charity stripe.

Sebeka and Bertha-Hewitt shared the Park Region Conference title last year.

This year, the Trojans weren’t in any mood to share as they clinched the school’s first outright PRC title in Friday night’s 73-64 victory over the sixth-ranked Bears.

The last time Sebeka held sole possession of any conference title was back in 1971 when they won the Lake Region Conference title. In 1975, they were co-champions.

Leave it to Sebeka to muddle up the Park Region Conference race with the surprising 51-48 victory over fifth-ranked Bertha-Hewitt on Friday.

With the win, the Lady Trojans inserted themselves in the thick of the conference standings and have a chance to do more damage when current leader New York Mills invades the Sebeka home court on Monday, March 1 in the regular season finale.

But first, Sebeka had to get past the Lady Bears, a team that trounced them back in January by a score of 73-40.

Hannah Rutten dropped a game-high 22 points and Alicia Boe added 20—including four three-pointers—but New York Mills lost for the first time this season to Bertha-Hewitt, who avenged an early season loss in the 65-61 Park Region Conference game Friday.

With the loss by the eight-ranked Lady Eagles, the Park Region Conference title is up for grabs between three teams.
