Traditionally, the Bluffton Braves head to New York Mills for the annual Fourth of July game with their Hi-10 rivals. The fireworks show always comes after the game.

Not this year, as the host Millers decided to break tradition and scheduled a non-conference game with the Midway Snurdbirds for the firework gala and push the Braves game ahead by a day.

Kyle Dykhoff pitched a complete game shutout as the Bluffton Braves blanked Vergas 3-0 Wednesday.

The veteran righthander handcuffed the Loons to just four and struck out 10 in nine innings. The Loons only extra-base hit came from Garrett Dahlgren, who lined a double in the seventh.

Bluffton played an errorless ballgame and did the most damage in the bottom of the batting order, according to Braves skipper Terry Geiser.

Bluffton battled back to overcome an early 2-0 deficit to score four unanswered runs en route to sinking the host Perham Pirates 4-2 in 10 innings Wednesday (June 16).

The Pirates jumped on Bluffton starter Dustin Geiser in the third inning to score two runs on four hits. Jonnie Schmitz laced a two-out single to jump start the Perham nine, and that was followed by back-to-back singles from Gavin Biegler and Tyler Doll that plated Schmitz. It was suppose to be a seven inning affair during a rare night game in Bluffton, but the visiting Dent Wildcats made it the regular nine by scratching out a 7-4 victory on Friday.

The game was tied at 4 apiece after seven when the Wildcats rallied from a 4-1 deficit with three runs in the fifth.

Both teams tallied a run in the opening frame before Marc Sweere gave the hometown Braves the lead with a two-run homer to highlight the third. Kyle Dykhoff hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Jake Seelhammer in the fourth for the 4-1 lead.

As always, the games between the two Hi-10 League rivals seem to come down to the final out, and the Saturday night battle didn't disappoint area town ball fans.

Marc Sweere went 4-for-4 with a double and drove in a run while little brother Josh Sweere belted a pair of doubles, but Bluffton ended up dropping the close contest, 6-5, as Detroit Lakes got a lift from a pair of home runs in the fifth inning.
