St. Cloud State University Director of Athletics Dr. Morris Kurtz has named Michelle Blaeser as the Huskies next head women’s volleyball coach. Blaeser will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.

College Volleyball: Minnesota advances with first-round victory over Louisville

The Minnesota volleyball team (25-8) advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a four-set victory over Louisville (21-11) by scores of 25-20, 24-26, 26-24, 25-22. With the victory, the Golden Gophers moved to 12-1 in First Round NCAA Tournament matches under Head Coach Mike Hebert.

Minnesota also claimed its 25th victory, giving it 25 or more wins in nine of the last 11 seasons. The Golden Gophers will face Tennessee, who defeated Duke in four sets, on Saturday (today) at 6 p.m. (CT).

College Volleyball: Gophers heading to Tennessee for NCAA Tournament; face Louisville

The Minnesota volleyball team (24-8) will face Louisville (21-10) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Knoxville, Tenn. on Friday at 4:00 p.m. (CT). The other first round matchup will feature host Tennessee (23-7) against Duke (27-5).

On Saturday, the winner of the Louisville-Minnesota match will face the winner of the Duke-Tennessee at 6 p.m. (CT). All of the Golden Gophers postseason matches can be heard live in the Gold Zone.

College Volleyball: Gophers sweep fifth-ranked Illinois

The Minnesota volleyball team (24-8, 15-5) defeated No. 5 Illinois (24-5, 16-4) in three sets by scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-22 at the Sports Pavilion on Saturday. With the win, the Golden Gophers have now won 15 or more Big Ten matches in eight of the last 11 seasons.

Minnesota was led by junior middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.) who hit .500 (18-3-30) with 18 kills and five blocks on the night. It was the 18th time this season that Gibbemeyer has hit over .400 in a match.

College Volleyball: Gophers down Northwestern in three sets

The Minnesota volleyball team (23-8, 14-5) defeated Northwestern (16-16, 7-13) in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-20, 25-21 at the Sports Pavilion on Friday. With the victory and a Michigan loss to Ohio State, the Golden Gophers clinched third place in the Big Ten.

The Wadena-Deer Creek volleyball team had two players that were named All-Tournament after the Lady Wolverines won the State Class AA consolation championship on Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center.
 
Kelsi Crawford and Courtney Volkmann, both juniors, were chosen for the nine-person team presented by Wells-Fargo and the Minnesota State High School League.
