Midway erupted in the late innings to down the pesty Huntersville Horseflies 5-2 during a Lake & Pine League game Friday night in Menahga.
The Snurdbirds put two runs on the board in the bottom of the second inning off a bases-loaded walk and a Derek Dormanen RBI fielders choice, but the Horseflies would answer in the top of the fourth when Jake Rude ripped a bases-loaded double to tie the game, 2-2.
Midway took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh. Zach Etter laced a RBI single into the gap and Shane Hendrickson followed with a double into left.
Robert Weaver parked a solo shot beyond the 315 foot sign in right field for his first home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth that gave the ‘Birds the 5-2 win.

Etter went five innings on the mound for the ‘Birds, but was relieved by Hendrickson at the start of the sixth with the game still tied at 2-2. Etter tossed a three-hitter, but surrendered two earned runs, walked four and struck out six. Hendrickson allowed just two hits in four innings and struck out six to register the ‘Birds pitching win.
Derrick Rude was tagged with the mound loss for the ‘Flies.
