Beetles' Mikel Alvarez nabs Rawlings 'Finest in the Field Award'

Alexandria Beetles second baseman Mikel Alvarez (Florida Gulf Coast University) received the Rawlings ‘Finest in the Field Award’ for best fielding percentage at second base.

Alvarez, played two years with the Beetles and is entering his senior season at Florida Gulf Coast University. Alvarez had a fielding percentage of .973 during the 2010 season for the Beetles.

Rawlings has given the award to the Northwoods Leagues Finest infielders since 2002 and each player will receive a special Rawlings baseball glove mounted on an engraved trophy base. To qualify for the award each player must play in at least two-thirds of the scheduled Northwoods League games at the specific position, catchers only have to appear in half of the games, and for pitchers the player that had the highest total defensive chances without committing an error earns the number one spot.
