Boys Basketball: Pulju, Sebeka handle Verndale 81-32

Cody Pulju drained a game-high 17 points as the Sebeka Trojans handed Verndale an 81-32 Park Region Conference defeat on Tuesday.

The Trojans raced to a 46-14 halftime lead, which allowed Sebeka head coach Jon Lillquist to give his bench players significant playing time.

"We had some guys off the bench who played real well.” Lillquist said. “It's important to have more production from others and we had that tonight.”

In all, 11 players contributed to the scorebook for the third-ranked Trojans

Andrew York came off the Trojan bench to score seven points, haul down two rebounds, blocked a shot and had a steal—all in 10 minutes of playing time. Reid Redetzke also contributed off the bench with six points.

“Andrew had his best varsity game and Reid really showed what he can do.” Lillquist noted.

Sebeka shot 57 percent (34-for-61) from the field and connected 50 percent (10-for-20) from the free-throw line in the conference victory. They also won the battle at the boards with 36 rebounds to the Pirates’ 26.

The Pirates, playing shorthanded without starters Zach Meidinger and Caleb Burczyk, shot an ice-cold 26 percent (10-for-38) from the field and turned the ball over 32 times.

Travis Lollar was the leading scorer for Verndale with 10 points as the Pirates fell to 1-8 on the year.

Also posting double digits for the Trojans were Ryan Sharp with 15 points and Joey Cuperus 12.
