BREAKING NEWS: Minnesota Vikings petition league for Los Angeles move

Citing the ongoing failure to secure a new stadium funding and the current local economic instability, the Minnesota Vikings and owner Zygi Wilf have filed paperwork at the National Football League headquarters to request a move to Los Angeles after the upcoming 2010-11 season.
According to news sources, a league spokesperson confirmed that the paperwork was submitted just before the preseason schedule was announced earlier this week.
“The Minnesota Vikings have filed paperwork to petition the National Football League and its team owners to consider the possibility of a move to the Los Angeles area in the near future.” The league spokesperson said, speaking to the media anonymously due to league policy.
Los Angeles businessman Brandon Breitsprecher welcomed the news of the possible Vikings move with optimistic caution, stating that the move was far from certain.
“While the Los Angeles area will welcome the return of professional football, whether it’s the Minnesota Vikings relocating or through expansion, we must be aware it’s a long, tedious process and far from reality at this time,” he said.
The petition also has provisions that the Minnesota Vikings will forfeit the rights to the team name, mascot and colors to the State of Minnesota in case the area lands an expansion team in the future.
Amanda White of the Vikings’ media and public relations department would neither confirm or deny the reports but issued a news release stating that the team just can’t compete financially in the garbage bag they call a stadium, the Metrodome.
“While the Minnesota Vikings applaud the successful efforts by the Minnesota Twins and the University of Minnesota to secure funding to build their new stadiums, the Minnesota Vikings have tried unsuccessfully for years to get funding our own stadium.” White said in the release. “We cannot continue to suffer financially in the Metrodome and may need to look at other options if necessary in order to compete with the rest of the league.”
The news of a possible relocation to Los Angeles by the Vikings was met by skepticism on Capitol Hill in St. Paul. However, one local representative took offense to the team abandoning ship—so to speak—in the time of economic instability around the country and issued a profanity-laced statement.
“If the Minnesota Vikings think that their idle threats to relocate will bring about stadium funding, they’re (bleep) wrong.” District 61A Representative Ron Terrian said. “What the (bleep) Vikings don’t realize is the State of Minnesota is broke. There, I said it, we’re broke.”
“I’ll be (bleep) if the state taxpayers would support another round of taxes in order to support these (bleep) rich football owners and cry-baby millionaire players,” Terrian continued. “The “Average Joe” cannot even support his own family as jobs are being cut and prices for gas and food are rising nationwide for heaven’s sake. (Bleep)”
Attempts to contact Governor Tim Pawlenty and Minnesota Viking owner Zygi Wilf went unanswered.
