College Football: Fred Williams' four touchdown catches lead Huskies past Dragons 47-0

St. Cloud State junior wide receiver Fred Williams (Milwaukee, WI) tied a school record with four touchdown catches and the Husky defense recorded four interceptions as the Huskies defeated Minnesota State University Moorhead 47-0 Saturday afternoon at Alex Nemzek Stadium in Moorhead.
Junior running back Jake Machacek (Eagan) rushed for 125 yards on 14 carries and
scored a touchdown to lead the Huskies on the ground.
With the win, St. Cloud State improves to 6-4 overall and 6-3 in the NSIC. The Huskies also improve to 5-1 in the NSIC North. MSU Moorhead drops to 2-8 overall, 1-8 in the NSIC and 1-5 in the NSIC North.
St. Cloud State will host undefeated Minnesota State University, Mankato next
Saturday in the NSIC regular season finale at Husky Stadium. The Mavericks are 10-0 overall and 9-0 in the NSIC.
With senior Derek Stripling (Wabasso) starting at quarterback, the Huskies scored on its second possession of the first quarter, a five yard slant from Stripling to Fred
Williams. The Huskies had two pass plays that helped set up the score, a 19-yard
completion to Williams, followed by an 11-yard completion to Cody Anderson Norblom. A ten-yard run by junior Dante Steward (Milwaukee, WI) gave the Huskies a first and ten on the MSUM 20-yard line.
Late in the first quarter, the Dragons set up for a 37-yard field goal attempt and missed. The first quarter ended with SCSU leading 7-0. A minute and two seconds into the second quarter Stripling found Williams again, this time on a 31-yard touchdown pass play helped by a Tyler Allery block. Jake Machacek set up the play with a 38-yard rush.
Junior safety Tyler Niedfeldt (Plymouth, WI) intercepted MSUM and the Huskies found themselves at midfield. Six plays later Machacek ran in from one yard out to give the Huskies a 21-0 lead at 10:43. Machacek had runs of 27, five and one in the drive and Williams caught a 26-yard pass.
Joe Everson intercepted MSUM and returned it 55-yards for a touchdown it give the
Huskies a 28-0 lead at 9:10 of the second. It was Everson’s second interception of the season, first for a touchdown, and the fourth interception return for a TD for the Huskies this season.
The Huskies halted the Dragons on the next drive when Marvin Matthews intercepted
on the one-yard line. St. Cloud State engineered a 99-yard drive that ended on a seven-yard touchdown pass from Brad Meade to Fred Williams and the Huskies had a 34-0 half time lead (missed PAT on last touchdown).
Late in the third quarter, Fred Williams caught his fourth touchdown pass of the day, an 11-yard play from Meade that game the Huskies a 40-0 lead at 3:01 in the third. That would be all the scoring in the third quarter.
Three minutes into the fourth quarter, Dante Steward broke a run for 24 yards and scored his first touchdown of the game. The Huskies converted on the kick and led
47-0 at the 12:22 mark.
