Minnesota Swarm sign three more players for 2010 season

The Minnesota Swarm have re-signed forwards Aaron Wilson and Kevin Ross to one-year contracts for the 2010 season. General Manager Marty O’Neill also signed forward Sean Thomson who was acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Wings on Sep. 25 to a one-year contract for the 2010 season. These signing are currently pending approval from the league office.

Minnesota acquired Wilson in a trade last season with the Rochester Knighthawks six games into the season. As a member of the Swarm, Wilson went on to post 43 points (22G, 21A) and 46 loose balls in ten contests. Wilson scored a season-high five goals and added three assists in a crucial midseason win on the road against the Buffalo Bandits in only his third game with the team. The native of Kitchener, Ontario will be entering his eighth season in the NLL in 2010 and has recorded 392 points (221G, 171A) along with 580 loose balls in 107 career games with Toronto, Rochester and Minnesota.

“Aaron jump-started us back into the playoff run when we acquired him last season,” stated O’Neill. “This year he will be an Assistant Captain and we are looking for him to provide leadership to help us return to the playoffs.”

Ross appeared in all 16 games for the Swarm last season and recorded 43 points (20G, 23A) along with 47 loose balls in his second season in the NLL. The native of Toronto, Ontario was signed as a free agent by the Swarm on Dec. 2, 2008. This past summer, Ross won a Mann Cup Championship in Canada with the Brampton Excelsiors of the Major Series Lacrosse (MSL).

“We were very pleased to see Kevin play in every game for us last season,” said O’Neill “He has now proven that he can be a durable guy in this league and we see him as a big part of our youth movement for the future.”

In seven contests with the Wings in 2009, Thomson recorded six points (5G, 1A) and collected eight loose balls in his first season in the NLL. He was named “Rookie of the Week” during Week 2 of the 2009 NLL season when he scored three goals on four shots in a 16-13 win over the Knighthawks. Thomson is a former a first round selection (ninth overall) of the Wings in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft.

“Sean missed a good chunk of last season with medical issues. He will get a fresh start in Minnesota and we will take the necessary precautions to ensure he is in good health,” stated O’Neill. “We look forward to seeing what he can do along with the other second year guys this year.”
