Northwoods League: Beck, Beetles blank MoonDogs 10-0

Alexandria continued their hot play in the second half as they took down the Mankato MoonDogs in game one of a two-game series in Mankato.

The Beetles got a very strong pitching performance from starter Sander Beck (Maryland) and gave him all the run support he needed in the win. After pitching a combined 3.0 innings in his last two appearances, Beck went 6.0 innings, allowing just four hits and striking out a season high 11, improving to 4-2 on the season. Beck used over 110 pitches to get through the outing as he also walked four.

The offensive support came from multiple sources for the Beetles. Five different players recorded RBI in the game for Alexandria and Tim Roberson (FGCU) and Matt Lowenstein (Loyola Marymount) had multiple RBI games. Roberson continued to swing a hot bat going 2-for-4 with two RBI, Lowenstein also went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two stolen bases.

Alexandria got multiple hit games from Roberson, Lowenstein, Brandon Garcia (USC), Taylor Davis (Morehead St) and Pat Biondi (Michigan) in a 14-hit effort.

The Beetles are now 5-2 in the second half of the season and will send Lindsey Caughel (Stetson) and his 5-1 record to the mound Friday night in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05 pm from Franklin Rogers Park.
