Northwoods League: Four-run first lifts Alexandria past Stingers, 6-5

It took only one inning for the Alexandria Beetles to get their offense going as they put a four-spot up in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, winning 6-5 over the Willmar Stingers.

Taylor Davis (Morehead St) came up with runners on and one out and hit a liner to right field. Willmar's Sean Dwyer (FGCU) dove for it and appeared to make the catch but it was ruled a hit and two runners came around to score. The next batter was shortstop Marcus Semien (Cal) and hit a double down the left field line that scored Ky Burgess (SE Missouri) and Davis.

The Beetles would tack on another run in the fourth when Will Miller (Furman) blasted a solo home run over the center field fence. It was the first home run of the season for Alexandria.

Brandon Garcia (USC) picked up the win for Alex, going 5.2 innings and giving up five runs, three of them earned. Dan Lazzaroni (Ala-Hunstville) pitched a perfect ninth to get his first save of the season.

Lindsey Caughel (Stetson) will be on the hill in game one of a three game series with the River Bats on Saturday at Joe Faber Field.
