Prep Baseball: Eagles sink Pirates in Park Region Conference doubleheader
Eric Wallgren hit a grand slam in the first game to help power New York Mills to a sweep of the Park Region Conference doubleheader against the Verndale Pirates on Tuesday.
Verndale only could manage four hits in the 10-3 loss in game one. Isaac Schmitz hit a two-run double as the Pirates scored all three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Verndale ended up stranding seven runners in scoring position.
Cody Yungbauer pitched a complete game and had seven strikeouts for the loss.
Shane Ollila and Mike Hejhal went 2-for-3 to lead the Pirates at the plate in the 12-3 loss in the nightcap. Dustin Motschenbacher took the loss on the hill for Verndale.
Verndale (3-7) plays McGregor in Mills Field (Brainerd) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
