Prep Baseball: Menahga drops doubleheader with Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale

Jared Hoemberg delivered two key hits to lift Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale past Menahga during the Park Region Conference twinbill on Tuesday.

The senior smashed a two-run homer in the first inning of game one and then laced a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning during the nightcap as the Raiders swept the Braves by scores of 5-2 and 3-2.

Kasey Tyge highlighted the Braves’ three hit effort in game one with a solo shot in the the bottom of the sixth inning. The senior took the hill in the second game and gave a solid performance despite three Menahga errors. Tyge surrendered one earned run in 6.1 innings and struck out five in the loss.

Dustin Motchenbacher led the Raiders at the plate in game two, going 3-4 with two runs scored. In the first game, Nick Jasmer went 2-3 with a run and drove in another while Austin Selvey went 2-4 for Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale.

Ben Skoog was saddled with the game one loss for Menahga. He gave up five runs (four earned) on five hits, walked seven and struck out six before being relieved in the fifth inning.

Menahga (0-4) hosts Browerville at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
