Prep Baseball: Wolverines sink Vikings in regular season finale, 7-2 (REPOSTED)

The Wadena-Deer Creek nine wrapped up their regular season on a positive note with the 7-2 victory over host Pelican Rapids on Tuesday.

Cody Redfield went 3-for-4 with a triple and drove in a run to lead the Wolverines 11 hit attack.

“An all-around well played game.” Wolverine head coach Kyle Dykhoff said. “We got our bats going again heading into the playoffs.”

Kevin Tumberg went 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and Ryan Nelson also collected two hits for the Wolverines, who erupted for three runs in the first inning.

Ryan Redfield hit his first career high school home run with a solo shot in the top of the fourth that increased the Wadena-Deer Creek lead to 4-0.

Pelican Rapids responded in their bottom half of the fourth with a two-run home run from Andy Johnson to trim the deficit in half, but the Vikings would not score again as the trio of Wolverine pitchers (Ryan Redfield, Cody Redfield and Kenny Sakry) combined to throw a seven-hitter and fanned seven.

The Wolverines capped the scoring with back-to-back RBI singles from Tumberg and Cody Redfield in the seventh.

Third-seeded Wadena-Deer Creek (10-8) will host No. 6 Crosby-Ironton at 5 p.m. Thursday in the quarterfinals of the South Subsection 8AA playoffs.
