Prep Boys Basketball: Sebeka falls short against Bertha-Hewitt, 69-62

Sebeka, Minn.—Paul Funk netted 25 points but Sebeka still fell short against Bertha-Hewitt 69-62 during Tuesday’s Park Region Conference game.

The Trojans were missing a starter for the third straight game as Justin Clark was sidelined due to illness.

"Our depth has really been tested lately with missing players every game.” Sebeka head coach Jon Lillquist said. “We played well at times and much improved. Just not good enough to come out with a win.”

Bertha-Hewitt led 25-20 at the break and led as much as 11 points (34-23) in the second half before the Trojans were able to whittle down the lead to a respectable seven point loss.

Sebeka shot 46 percent from the field (23 for 50) and canned six three-pointers. Funk was 8 for 14 from the field and nailed three long range shots. The senior was also a perfect six-of-six from the charity stripe.

Austin Cannon missed double figures with nine points, Carlos Castro had eight points and a team-high five assists. Bryson Vasey led the team in rebounds with 11, with Funk collecting seven boards for the winless Trojans.

“I like how we've been improving though,” Lillquist added. “If we can stay positive and keep working hard, we have some bright days ahead of us.”

Sebeka (0-4) travels to Clarissa to play Eagle Valley at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
