Prep Boys Basketball: Sebeka's home streak hits 40; clobber Verndale 77-49

Four starters posted double digits as top-ranked Sebeka easily dispatched Verndale 77-49 in a Park Region Conference game Monday.

It was the 40th consecutive victory for the Trojans on their home floor.

Ryan Sharp led all scorers with 22 points. The senior nailed four three-pointers and registered seven rebounds, four assists and a team-high five blocked shots for the Trojans, who shot 41 percent (27-for-66) from the floor.

"We were hitting on all cylinders as we missed a lot of layups and just had too many lapses on defense,” Sebeka head coach Jon Lillquist stated. “We'll need to play much better down the stretch."

Sebeka netted 18 shots from the floor and drained seven three-pointers in the first half to carry a 51-24 lead into halftime. The Trojans started off the second half on a 18-1 run that increased their lead to 69-25.

Verndale, which shot 35 percent (20-for-58), then outscored the Trojans’ second string 25-8 to close out the game. Three Pirates netted double digits with Dallas Ehrmantraut scoring a team-high 12 points in the loss. Dustin Motschenbacher and Zack Meidinger each added 11 for Verndale, which fell to 4-14 overall.

Cody Pulju netted 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the unbeaten Trojans. John Clark added 11 points, eight boards, a team-high seven assists, three blocked shots and two steals. Paul Funk scored 13 and Jason Sharp, who was the only starter that didn’t hit double figures, had five points.

Sebeka (19-0) hosts New London-Spicer on Friday (February 18) while Verndale entertains Staples-Motley at 7 p.m. Thursday (February 17). Both games will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
