Prep Boys Hockey: Greenway skates past Wadena-Deer Creek, 10-2

Coleraine, Minn.—Mitchell Swanson and Bridger Pettit tallied goals for Wadena-Deer Creek during Friday’s 10-2 nonconference loss to Greenway at the Hodgins-Berardo Arena in Coleraine.

The Raiders got off to a fast start with back-to-back goals from Darrin Estey and Josh Gross within the first minute and a half of the game and the Wolverines were unable to recover.

Swanson got Wadena-Deer Creek on the board at the 11:06 mark of the first period with Christian Berg providing the helper. Both Wolverine skaters would team up to assist on Bridger Pettit’s first goal of the season during a power-play tally at the start of the second period. That goal pulled the Wolverines within three, 5-2, but the Raiders went on to score five unanswered goals to ice the game.

Estey notched a hat trick for Greenway. Alex Troumbly scored two goals and had a pair of helpers and Brody Geisler added a goal and three assists to lead the Raiders with four points. In all, Greenway had 10 players registered two or more points during the victory.

The Raiders plummeled Wolverine goalie Cory McManigle with 37 shots, and scored on all three attempts in the third period.

Wadena-Deer Creek (0-2) travels up the road to face Eveleth-Gilbert in the historic Hippodrome Arena at 2 p.m. Saturday (today).
