Prep Football: Hunstad, Pillager upend New York Mills 36-14
Pillager quarterback Jordan Hunstad threw New York Mills under the bus to help Huskies roll to a 36-14 Prairie Conference victory Wednesday night.
After Tanner Wegscheid scored on a two-yard run to give the host Eagles the early lead in the first quarter, Hunstad took over the drivers seat by returning the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. He also ran in the conversion points for the Huskies 8-6 lead and Pillager went into overdrive for the rest of the night.
The senior signal-caller—who finished with 264 total offensive yards (101 rushing, 163 passing)—later found running back Sean Nokken for a 29-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter as the Huskies carried an eight-point lead into halftime, 14-6.
Nokken scored his second touchdown of the game on a 15-yard run and Ben Manlick added a five-yard touchdown run with nine seconds left in the Huskies third-quarter outburst.
The Eagles pulled within 28-14 when Wegscheid notched his second touchdown run of the night on a five-yarder but the Huskies answered with an 18-yard run from Matt Doss with less than two minutes left to play.
New York Mills, who racked up 263 total yards of offense in the game, needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. Instead, the loss ends the Eagles season at 1-7.
