Prep Football: Jensen, Rockets roll over Verndale 28-6

Kyle Jensen accounted for all four touchdowns as the Rockets rolled to a 28-6 Pheasant Conference victory over Verndale on Friday.

Jensen rushed for 243 yards on 28 carries and tacked on a pair of conversion runs in the victory. The senior running back ignited the Rockets’ with a 65-yard touchdown and conversion run in the first quarter to spot the home team the 8-0 lead.

Verndale answered with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Dallas Ehrmantraut to Marcos Gomez in the second quarter, but failed to convert on the extra-point pass.

It would be the closest the Pirates would get as Jensen ran wild the remainder of the game, adding a pair of seven-yard touchdown runs before closing out his big night with a 14-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Pirate running back Andy Bounds was two yards shy of the century mark, finishing with 26 carries for 98 yards in the loss. Dillion Card completed seven of 15 passes for 62 yards and threw two interceptions. Ehrmantraut was the Pirates leading receiver with five catches for 45 yards.

Defensively, the Pirates were led by Colton Moyer with 22 tackles. Bounds had 17 tackles and Dan Fischer added 14.

Verndale (1-1) looks to get back on track when they host Hillcrest Lutheran at 7 p.m. Friday for homecoming.
