Prep Football: Osakis streaks past New York Mills, 49-0
New York Mills head coach Matt Radniecki didn’t mince words after his Eagles were pounded 49-0 by host the Osakis Silverstreaks in Prairie Conference football action Friday night.
“There is not much to say other than we got the tar kicked out of us.” He said. “Osakis was a very physical football team and we didn't match their intensity and physical play at all.”
Both teams came in with identical 1-3 records, but Osakis had the extra motivation to win because it was the Silverstreaks’ homecoming game.
Osakis ended up lighting up the Eagles’ defense like a Christmas tree, as they generated 417 total yards of offense. The Silverstreaks’ power running game did the most damage with 331 rushing yards and scored six touchdowns in the rout.
“I was disappointed in the way we came out flat and seemingly not ready to play, Radniecki said. “We felt we had a good game plan for Osakis but the Silverstreaks dominated us in all phases of the game, defense, offense, and special teams.
“We just could not seem to get anything going on offense and on defense we tackled very poorly, giving the Osakis running backs extra yards.”
While Osakis’ well-oiled offensive machine had no trouble finding the end zone early and often, New York Mills had trouble getting theirs started the entire game. They were held to two first downs and finished with 43 total yards from scrimmage.
The Silversteaks put up seven points in the first quarter, and then went on to notch 14 points in each of the next three quarters to send the Eagles home with their second consecutive loss since snapping the losing streak.
Radniecki gave some credit to the Silverstreaks’ head coach Bill Infanger for having his team ready to play.
“They didn't really do anything we weren't aware of but they just came out and pounded the ball and mixed in a few passes to give their offense great success,” he said.
Despite the lopsided loss, Radniecki remained optimistic as the Eagles head to Parkers Prairie next Friday to face the winless Panthers in another big game for both teams.
"We need to learn from this game, but also get it out of minds quickly. It just snowballed on us and we need to learn how to stop that in the future.” Radniecki explained. “We have some injuries, but as a coaching staff we are confident that we are going to come out ready to play this week and leave Parkers with a victory.”
New York Mills (1-4) will kick off against Parkers Prairie (0-5) at 7 p.m. Friday.
