Prep Football: Perham lands six on Heart O’ Lakes All-Northern Conference Team

Perham had six players receiving postseason accolades when the 24 member Heart O’ Lakes All-Northern Conference Team was announced today.
The Yellowjackets (9-4) went 5-1 in conference games to capture the HOL Northern Division title. Perham won the Section 8AAA championship, but fell to Providence Academy 28-19 in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota State Football Tournament.
The six ‘Jackets named to the conference team were Jesse Hein (Sr., C/DT), Jordan Hein (Jr., QB/FS), Gabe Pankonin (Sr., RB/DB), Payton Jordahl (Soph., LB/FB), Jakob Still (Sr., FB/DL) and Mark Schumacher (Sr., T/DT)
The Yellowjackets also claimed three of the eight HOL Northern Conference individual awards. Jordan Hein was named the Northern MVP after racking up 2,779 yards of total offense during the season. The junior rushed 242 times for 1,400 yards and 19 touchdowns. He also completed 88 passes for another 1,379 yards and 15 touchdowns to guide the potent ‘Jacket offense. Hein was intercepted eight times and finished with 127.6 passing efficency.
Jesse Hein collected the conference’s Most Valuable Defensive Lineman award. The senior defensive tackle was second on the team in tackles with 96 (66 solo, 30 assisted). He also had one quarterback sack, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. Hein also converted 33-of-40 extra-point kicks and one field goal for 36 points for the ‘Jackets.
Perham Head Coach Mike Jordahl was named the HOL Northern Division Coach of the Year.
HOL Northern Conference runner-up Detroit Lakes placed four players to the all-conference team, as did Section 8AAA runner-up Pequot Lakes. The Lakers’ Rick Hutchinson (Sr., FS/WR) was the Most Valuable Receiver and Brian Labat (Sr., OLB/SB) was the Most Valuable Linebacker. The Patriots’ Logan Lange (Sr., RB/LB) collected the conference’s Most Valuable Back award.
David Erickson (Sr., OG/DT) was named Most Valuable Offensive Lineman and teammate Jacob Mattison (Sr., WR/DB) picked up the Most Valuable Defensive Back award for Thief River Falls, who also landed four players on the team.
Park Rapids Area, which finished the season 3-7 (2-4 conference), had two players named to the team: Forrest Drury (Sr., RB/LB), Brandon Ritter (Sr., OG/DE)
