Prep Football: Pirates snap five-game skid with convincing 38-6 win over Lincoln HI (REPOSTED)

Zack Meidinger rushed for 114 yards on 21 carries and scored two touchdowns to help Verndale snap a five-game losing streak with the 38-6 Pheasant Conference victory over Lincoln HI Wednesday night.

The Pirates outscored the Rebels 24-0 in the first half and got another 137 yards rushing and a touchdown from Cody Yungbauer in the victory.

Yungbauer notched a six-yard run in the first quarter while quarterback Nate Bart punched in from two-yards out and Meidinger ran for a 22-yard touchdown scamper in the Pirates’ first-half outburst.

Meidinger picked up his second touchdown on a four-yard run at the start the fourth quarter. Isaac Schmitz capped the Pirates’ night with a 30-yard touchdown run.

Verndale forced the Rebels into five turnovers (three interceptions and two fumbles) and and held them to five first downs in the game. Yungbauer registered a team-high nine tackles while Kyle Booth tallied seven tackles, one quarterback sack and recovered a fumble for the Pirates, who finished the regular season with a 2-6 mark.

Lincoln running back Cody Ness put his team on the board late in the fourth quarter with a 79-yard run. He finished with 139 yards rushing on 20 carries.

The seventh-seeded Pirates open the Section 4, nine-man playoffs at No. 2 Underwood Tuesday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
