Prep Girls Basketball: Lady Braves pick up conference win against Verndale, 66-41

Menahga, Minn.—Tarah Cleveland lit up Park Region Conference foe Verndale for 29 points as the Lady Braves improved to 3-0 during Tuesday’s 66-41 victory in Menahga.
The 5-foot-3 junior shooting guard was 10 for 17 from the floor and 3 for 8 from the three-point range. She also dished out a team-high six assists and had five steals.

The Pihlaja sisters also registered double digits in the Lady Braves’ conference win with Shelby netting 11 and Arielle 10. Jenny Skoog added eight points and hauled down a team-high 14 rebounds (10 defensive). Beth Tormanen had eight of the Lady Braves’ 22 steals in the game.
Teresa Moenkedick had a team-high 14 points with Jordan Glenz adding 10 for the Lady Pirates, who lost for the first time after starting the season with two wins.
The Lady Braves will be tested at 8 p.m. Friday when they host Class 1A, third-ranked Sebeka as part of the boys-girls doubleheader in Menahga.
Of note, Cleveland will enter Friday’s contest seven points shy of tying the Menahga girls’ all-time scoring record of 1,749 points—which was set by older sister Erica Cleveland in 2006.
