Prep Girls Basketball: Lady Trojans run past Verndale, 58-33

Jessica Lillquist posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to help host Sebeka run away with the 58-33 Park Region Conference victory over Verndale Friday night.
The junior also posted four assists, four steals and two blocked shots as the Lady Trojans limited Verndale to 31 percent shooting from the floor.
“Very physical game!” Sebeka head coach Mike Heino exclaimed. “[It] came down to us scoring in transition to widen the margin at the end of the game.”
The eighth-ranked Lady Trojans forced 25 turnovers in the game and outscored Verndale 30-14 in the second half. Alicia Boe also drained 17 points for the Lady Trojans and shared the team lead of six steals with Katie Huttunen, who finished with 11 points. The Lady Trojans lone senior also dished out a team-high five assists in the win.
Verndale was led by Elizabeth Johnson, who tallied a team-high eight points in the loss. Both Megan Richter and Lizzy Yungbauer each added seven points for the Lady Pirates, who went 12-for-39 from the floor and only hit two of 10 free-throw attempts.
Sebeka converted 22-of-55 shots for 43 percent from the floor and hauled down 30 boards (17 defensive) to remain undefeated in the conference with an 4-0 record.
Also contributing for the Lady Trojans were Brett Brockpahler with seven points, two rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. Katianne Brockpahler added four points and three steals while Jasmine Titcomb scored two points and also stole the ball three times.
Sebeka (6-2) travels to face Henning at 7:45 p.m. Thursday.
