Prep Girls Basketball: Sebeka routs Eagle Valley in season opener, 77-29 (UPDATED)

Clarissa, Minn.—Defending Section 5A champion Sebeka got off to an rousing start to its 2011-12 season with Tuesday’s 77-29 rout of the host Eagle Valley Rebels during a non-conference girls basketball game.

The Lady Trojans, ranked No. 3 in Class 1A and the favorite to repeat as section champs by Breakdown Sports during its preseason publication, were led by senior Jessica Lillquist’s double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds. In all, Sebeka had three players post double figures in the opening victory.

Alicia Boe was second in scoring with 20 points—including four of six three-pointers—as the Lady Trojans shot 42 percent (27 for 65) from the field. The senior also hauled down five rebounds, dished out five assists and collected six steals. Katianne Brockpahler added 11 points and five boards.

Despite the large margin of victory, Sebeka head coach Mike Heino saw room for improvement

“We struggled with offensive transition this game.” He noted. “We hurried our transition and offense which resulted in many turnovers. The good thing is we created a lot of turnovers and played good defense.”

The Lady Trojans forced 21 turnovers and led 49-19 at the break.

Eagle Valley was led by Danielle Pratt’s six points. Stephanie Asfeld and Brooke Schumann added five points apiece for the Lady Rebels in the loss.

Sebeka (1-0) will host Wadena-Deer Creek (1-0) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday
