Prep Girls Basketball: Section 5A Brackets announced

As expected, both Barnum and Upsala received the top seeds when the Section 5A girls basketball bracket was announced this morning.

Barnum (22-3), ranked No. 2 in the latest girls basketball polls, was the top seed in the East Sub-section while Upsala (22-0), ranked fifth, took the top spot in the West Sub-section. Both teams received byes and will await the winners of the pigtail games on Thursday, March 3.

Upsala will face the winner between No. 8 Menahga and No. 9 Verndale, who are scheduled to play at 7 p.m. Monday in Menahga.

Also receiving byes in the West Sub-section were No. 2 Pine-River Backus (22-3) and No. 3 Sebeka (18-6).

The Lady Trojans will play the winner of No. 6 Pillager/No. 11 Swanville while fourth-seeded Bertha-Hewitt (18-7) will tangle with fifth-seeded Eagle Valley (16-6) at 7 p.m. March 3.
