Prep Girls Golf: Grand Rapids claims United North Central Invitational on Thursday

Grand Rapids placed three in the top five individually as the Thunderhawks dominated the United North Central Invitational at Blueberry Pines by 30 strokes over runner-up Detroit Lakes on Thursday.

Thunderhawk Mikky Kromy fired a 38 on the front nine, and then took one stroke off her score in the back nine to card a 75 for medalist honors. Grand Rapids’ Steph Mackey placed second individually with 81 (41-40) and Katie Sheetz fourth with 85 (42-43).

Detroit Lakes eighth-grader Matty Tschider was third individually with 84 (40-44) to pace the runner-up Lakers, who scored 359 in the team standings.

Kelly Hagenson rounded out the top five in the individual standings with her 87, which landed the Staples-Motley Cardinals in fourth place with 396.

Host United North Central did not field a complete team to register a team score, but the Lady Warriors were led by Heather Brostrom, who carded an 105 (54-51). Ally Ohlgren turned in a 116 (59-57) and Tasha Maninga 125 (73-52) for United North Central.
