Prep Girls Hockey: Park Rapids Area blank Blue Devils 10-0

Walker, Minn.—Jessica Gapinski tallied a hat trick and two helpers as Park Rapids Area lit up the Blue Devils in Thursday’s 10-0 rout.

Two of Gapinski’s goals came shorthanded as the Panthers scored five times in the final period to chase Blue Devil starting goalie Sarah Holm from the nets.

The lopsided loss came two days after the Blue Devils had their highest offensive input of six goals and 49 shots during their first victory of the season over Morris-Benson Area.

However, Park Rapids Area turned the tables and limited the Blue Devils to just eight shots while peppering the visitors goaltending duo of Holm and Angela Hanson with 41 shots.

Gapinski got the Panthers going with her unassisted goal at 2:31 of the first period. The senior forward scored shorthanded 1:08 into the second period and tallied her second shorthanded goal with four minutes left in the game. She also assisted on two third period goals to finish with five points on the night.

Also contributing to the Panthers scoring frenzy was Ashley Thelen with two goals while Christina Smith, Lauren Naeve, Danika Aletto, Alex Pederson and Tayah Otterness each iced a goal. Kendra Dresow provided two helpers for the Panthers, who snapped a three-game losing streak.

Holm ended up surrendering six goals on 32 shots for the loss. Hanson kicked away five shots, but had four slip past her during 10 minutes of third-period action.

The Blue Devils (1-5) look to rebound at 7 p.m. Thursday against Northern Lakes in Breezy Point.
