Prep Girls Tennis: Lady Eagles drop pair of matches to 'Lakes' teams

Abby Salo was the lone New York Mills girls tennis player to record a point as the Lady Eagles dropped a pair of dual meets this past week to Detroit Lakes and Pequot Lakes.

Salo posted a 2-6, 7-5 (11-5) victory over the Lakers’ Emma Maquire at fourth singles in the Lady Eagles’ 6-1 loss on Tuesday.

“The Lakers have a nice team this year and growing program.” New York Mills head coach Gary Bach said. “We would like to follow suit and add more players in the future. Abby picked up a nice pressure win for us at 4th singles today.”

New York Mills’ Jenna Esala dropped a three-set match at first singles to Detroit Lakes’ Katie Anderson. Esala won the first set, but lost the next two.

On Thursday, the Lady Eagles ran into a strong Pequot Lakes team and were shut out by the Patriots, 7-0.

Pequot Lakes posted two-set sweeps and only surrendered four points in the match.

“It's always good for our players to play a team of this caliber, to challenge us to and raise our level of tennis.” Bach said. “The Patriots are an excellent team, maybe the best in our section.”

New York Mills will host Wadena-Deer Creek on Monday and then head to Parkers Prairie on Tuesday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
