Prep Girls Tennis: Lady Wolverines clip Lady Eagles, 5-2 (UPDATED)

Wadena-Deer Creek swept the doubles portion and picked up two victories in singles action to hand New York Mills a 5-2 defeat in Monday’s girls tennis action.

The Hartman sisters, Macy and Paige, were the singles victors for the Lady Wolverines during the match. Macy defeated the Lady Eagles’ Jenna Esala at No. 1 singles by 6-1, 6-1 scores while Paige scored a two-set win at No. 2 singles over NYM’s Kristin Guldseth by 6-3, 6-3 scores.

“It was a busy week filled with some entertaining and exciting tennis,” New York Mills head coach Gary Bach said. “We gained team points in the bottom singles spots, but came up short in some close doubles play.”

The Lady Eagles’ Vicky Selander topped Sarah Najjar at third singles (6-2, 6-2) and Abby Salo scored a 6-1, 6-0 win over the Lady Wolverines’ Abby Wegscheid at No. 4 singles.

The Lady Wolverines pulled out some close wins in the doubles matches to clip New York Mills. Hannah Jacobson and Ashley Carlson scored a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over the Lady Eagles’ Kristin Kane and Emily Blomberg at No. 1 doubles. WDC’s Elise Kallevig and Macy Folkestad needed a second set tiebreaker to edge their NYM opponents at third doubles.

Wadena-Deer Creek (2-12) travels to West Central Area while New York Mills (0-15) heads to Parkers Prairie on Tuesday. The Lady Eagles’ match will start at 4 p.m. and the Lady Wolverines’ match begins at 4:30 p.m.
