Prep Girls Tennis: Lady Wolverines place sixth at Mid-State

Paige Hartman captured fourth place at No. 2 singles to lead Wadena-Deer Creek to sixth place in Saturday’s Mid-State Conference Tournament held in Park Rapids.

The sophomore defeated Crosby-Ironton’s Gabrelle Hudrlik in the opener 6-4, 6-1, but fell to Pequot Lakes’ Kaycee Nelson in the semifinals by identical 6-3 scores. Hartman lost a third-set tiebreaker to Staples-Motley’s Kelsey Zetah in the third-place match.

Scoring consolation championships for the Lady Wolverines were Macy Hartman at No. 1 singles and Sarah Najjar at third singles. Both girls rebounded from their opening loss to win the next two matches.

Desiree Isola finished sixth at No. 4 singles while all three Lady Wolverines doubles teams went 0-2 to finish seventh.

Pequot Lakes claimed the conference championship behind three first-place finishers. The Patriots’ Haley Wiebolt (No. 3) and Jaden Linder (No. 4) won individual titles in singles action while Elle Erholtz and Lauren Bengtson scored a No. 3 doubles title.

Mikayla Wing at No. 1 singles and the No. 2 doubles team of Grace Wolhowe and Nikki Edin captured first-place finishes for Staples-Motley, who finished third with 33 points.
