Prep Girls Tennis: Lady Wolverines top Perham for first victory of season

Wadena-Deer Creek swept all four singles matches and picked up a bonus win at No. 3 doubles to top Perham 5-2 for their first win of the season during Friday’s non-conference meet.

Macy Hartman needed a first set tiebreaker to upend the ‘Jackets Suzanne Coleman at first singles 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. The Lady Wolverines’ Paige Hartman and Sarah Najjar breezed past their ‘Jacket opponents in straight sets. Abby Wegscheid needed three sets to upend Perham’s Josie Beachy 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

At No. 3 doubles, Erin Johnson and Elise Kallevig also went three sets winning 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) over the ‘Jackets’ Katie Howey and Makayla Kroenke.

The Lady Wolverines (1-11) will host their annual Lions Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday at the high school courts.
