Prep Softball: Pequot Lakes stuns Lady Wolverines in playoff opener
What a difference five days makes.
The Wadena-Deer Creek girls softball team defeated Pequot Lakes in a regular season conference doubleheader on May 20 by scores of 7-5 and 6-1.
On Tuesday, the seventh-seeded Patriots turned the tables to pull out the 4-2 upset of the second-seeded Lady Wolverines in the South Subsection 8AA playoff opener.
Pequot Lakes scattered eight hits as Kim Narveson finished 2-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs. Megan Hogen also slugged out a triple and teammate Rachael Langer went 2-for-4 with a double as the Patriots advanced.
The Lady Wolverines collected seven hits against Pequot Lake starter Kayla Wangen, with Leah Dykhoff going 2-for-4 (both bunt singles) and Lexi Hoemberg had a double in the loss.
Kelly DeFoe took the loss on the hill for Wadena-Deer Creek, who played error-free behind the senior but still ended the season with a 13-7 record.
