Sebeka extended their winning streak to seven games with Tuesday’s Park Region Conference doubleheader sweep of Verndale by scores of 17-15 and 8-2.

Both teams combined for 30 hits in the game one slugfest as five different players registered three or more hits.

Sebeka, which rallied from an early 9-1 deficit, were led by Jessica Lillquist who went 3-for-5 with a run and four RBIs. The junior notched a pair of two-run singles—including the one in the top of the fifth inning that tied the game at 12-12.

The Lady Trojans went ahead for good in the sixth when Brett Brockpahler (2-for-5, R, 2B, 5RBI) laced a two-run double and Katie Huttunen (3-for-5, 2R, 3RBI) drove in a pair of runs with her line drive up the middle. Brockpahler would also highlight the Lady Trojans’ six run, third inning outburst with a three-run double.

The Lady Pirates’ Kirsten Korfe went 4-for-5 with two runs and four RBI while Lizzy Yungbauer was 3-for-5 with three runs, a double, a triple and RBI. Jenny Swenson highlighted the Lady Pirates’ five-run first inning with a two-run home run over the left field fence.

Verndale nearly rallied in the bottom of the seventh. Elizabeth Johnson slugged her second double of the game to plate Mara Kern, who was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Korfe’s RBI single knocked out Sebeka starter Brett Brockpahler with no outs and Lady Pirate runners on second and third.

With the Lady Trojans’ clinging to a 17-15 lead, relief pitcher Kendra Steinke slammed the door shut by getting the next two Verndale batters to strike out and then snagged a line drive for the final out.

Brett Brockpahler earned the win in the circle while Steinke picked up the save for the Lady Trojans. Korfe was the losing pitcher for the Lady Pirates despite coming in relief for starter Jenny Swenson, who left in the fifth inning.

Lillquist slugged a two-run double as Sebeka erupted for five runs in the second inning of the nightcap. The Lady Trojans would tack on three more runs on RBI singles from Huttunen and Steinke along with a Verndale fielding error.

Korfe’s RBI single and a Sebeka error allowed the Lady Pirates to pull within 5-2 in the top of third, but Steinke would handcuff Verndale to just five hits the rest of the game.

Teresa Moenkedick went 2-for-3 with a triple and Jordy Schluttner was 1-3 with a double at the plate for Verndale in the game two loss.

The Lady Trojans improved to 8-6 overall (6-5 conference) while the Lady Pirates fell to 2-14 overall (1-11 conference). Verndale travels to Menahga at 4 p.m. Thursday while Sebeka hosts Pine River-Backus at 4:30 p.m. Monday (May 16).
