Prep Volleyball: Lady Eagles sweep Staples-Motley in home opener

Tori Kempenich slammed a team-high nine kills and Ellie Rutten filled the stat book with eight kills, one dig, two blocks, two ace serves, three blocks and three set assists as New York Mills swept Staples-Motley 3-0 during non-conference action Tuesday night.
New York Mills easily dispatched the Cardinals in the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-17 before grinding out a 25-22 game three win to cap the sweep. It was the Lady Eagles' first victory since October 13, 2009 when they edged Menahga 3-2, a streak of 29 winless games.
The Lady Eagles lit up the Cardinals for 11 aces from the service line with Amy Nebosis collecting a team-high four in the victory.
Lexie Rankka had 33 setting assists for the Lady Eagles, who picked up their first win of the season.
