Prep Volleyball: Lady Wolverines dispatch Sebeka in three

Brittney Noon lasered 14 kills and Emily Miron added 10 as Class AA, 10th ranked Wadena-Deer Creek dispatch Sebeka 3-0 during a non-conference girls volleyball match Tuesday at the elementary school gymnasium.

The Lady Wolverines posted 25-15, 25-22 and 25-15 scores to hand the visiting Lady Trojans (3-1) their first loss of the season.

“Sebeka has a tall team and we found out we need to become quicker on our block,” Wadena-Deer Creek head coach Sue Volkmann said. “But the kids came up with some crucial blocks when we really needed them.”

Miron chalked a team-high 10 blocks with Melissa Moenkedick registering nine, and Noon made eight stops for the Lady Wolverines, who rallied from a brief let-down in the second game.

Heather Theisen registered 28 set assists while twin sister Hope led the Lady Wolverines’ backcourt with 14 digs. Both Caitlin Volkmann and Sydney Schissel contributed 11 digs apiece.

“When we passed well we had some nice offensive attacks.” Volkmann stated. “Our defense played well again and we just need to keep working to improve the other parts of the game.”

Volkmann doesn’t need to fret about the teams serving performance, as Wadena-Deer Creek chalked three serve aces and went 69-for-70 from the line. Five Lady Wolverines were perfect from the service line with Avery Jackson going 18-for-18 with two aces to lead the team. Heather Theisen was 14-for-14 while Caitlin Volkmann went 12-for-12. Schissel was nine-for-nine with an ace and Hope Theisen was seven-for-seven on the night.

“These kids don’t panic when they get down and find ways to pull out the win.” Volkmann added. “That will really help us in the long run.”

Wadena-Deer Creek (3-0) travels to Pequot Lakes at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
