Prep Volleyball: Verndale outlasts the Huskies, 3-2

Verndale grinded out another five set victory for the second straight match with Thursday’s Park Region Conference win over Pillager.

Teresa Moenkedick lit up the stat book by posting a team-high 25 kills, 27 digs and three ace serves for the Lady Pirates, who even their conference mark at 3-3 for the season.

Jordanna Schluttner notched 11 kills and a team-high 14 blocks while Sarah Moenkedick put up 37 set assists for Verndale.

Defensively, the Lady Pirates recorded 128 digs in the contest with six players posting double figures from the backcourt. Sarah Moenkedick contributed 23 digs, with Jordyn Glenz adding 22. Elyssa Kern, Schluttner and Miranda Dougherty had 13 digs apiece.

Pillager rallied to force the decisive fifth set by winning the third and fourth sets behind Katie Gillson’s 14 kills and five blocks. Carly Bell registered a team-high 43 digs from the Huskies’ backcourt and Kelly Mast had a game-high 39 set assists.

Verndale (5-13-1) will participate in the Bertha-Hewitt Tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday
