Prep Wrestling: United North Central rallies to top Road Crew, 45-33

After falling behind early, United North Central won eight of the last 10 matches to top the visiting Pequot Lakes/Pine River-Backus Road Crew 45-33 in a dual meet on Tuesday night.

The Road Crew won the first three matches to take the early 15-0 lead by getting pins from Tristan Rubner (103) and Anthony Phillipson (112) while Jace Loge (119) edged the Warriors’ Brody Benson 8-6 in the overtime period.

United North Central answered by posting three match victories and a forfeit win to go ahead 21-15. Sam Tellers (125) got the ball rolling with a 1:26 first period pin over Lance Squires, and Jake Malone (130) followed it up with a 2:58 second period pin over Nick Gravdahl. The Warriors went ahead 18-15 after they received an additional six points with a forfeit at 135. Mike Johnson (140) increased the Warriors lead with a close 12-9 decision over Kyle Jordan.

Back-to-back falls from Trevor Johnson (145) and Peter Harris (152) allowed the Road Crew to snatch the lead back, 27-21. It will be the last lead of the night for the visitors, as they surrendered two forfeits in the last five matches with Jared Adkins (215) scoring a 1:30 fall over Jake Shepersky to round out their scoring.

United North Central’s Matt Johnson (171) and heavyweight Alex Schoon capped the Warriors scoring in the upper weights with a pair of quick pins. Johnson pinned Grant Moe in 1:03 and Schoon stuck Nick Kramp in 55 seconds in the first period for the 45-33 final.
