Prep Wrestling: United North Central wins the Rodd Olson Invitational (UPDATED)

Crookston, Minn.—United North Central had three wrestlers claim titles in their respective weight classes as the Warriors went on to win the Rodd Olson Invitational in Crookston on Saturday.

Overall, the Warriors had 13 grapplers place in the top six spots in the 11-team invitational with Tom Tellers (8th grade, 113 lbs), Jake Malone (Jr., 126 lbs.) and Max Pajari (Jr., 138 lbs.) winning individual titles.

During their respective championship matches, Tellers pinned Casey Warner of Roseau at 1:19, Malone edged Lake Park-Audubon/Hawley’s Mason Swegarden and Pajari did likewise against Alex Yanish of East Grand Forks by identical 3-2 scores.

Tellers finished the invitational with three pins in 2:15 to earn the Fall Award. Garrett Hoffner (Jr., 145 lbs.) of Mahnomen-Waubun was named Oustanding Wrestler.

United North Central easily outdistanced runner-ups Walker-Hackensack-Akeley/Nevis and Roseau 172.5 to 137 with host Crookston in fourth with 133.5 team points. It was the first team championship for the Warriors since winning the Lake Park-Audubon Tournament back in January 17, 2003.

Other top placers for the Warriors include Dylan Huttunen (Soph., 160 lbs.) and Taylor Carlson (Soph., 195 lbs.), who finished in third place. Landon Oshie (Freshman, 285 lbs) came in fourth while Austin Bacon (7th grade, 106 lbs.), Micah Aho (Soph., 120 lbs.), Tristan Palmer (Freshman, 170 lbs.) and Tanner Bacon (9th grade, 182 lbs.) were fifth.

Sam Tellers (Soph., 132 lbs.), Wyatt Puttonen (Soph., 145 lbs.) and Mike Johnson (Jr., 152 lbs.) rounded out the Warriors’ finishers with sixth-place.
