State Baseball: Class A Quarterfinals: Sebeka dispatches Southland 12-3

Sebeka erupted for 13 hits to dispatch the Southland Rebels 12-3 in the quarterfinals of the State Class A Boys Baseball tournament Thursday morning.

The Brockpahler brothers (Alex and Brenen) combined to go 5-for-7 with a double and three RBI while Cody Pulju and Taylor Pederson both collected two hits and drove in three runs to pace Sebeka at the plate. Josh Kinnunen rounded out the list of Trojans with multiple hits, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Sebeka erupted for five runs on six hits in the third inning to take control of the game. Brenen Brockpahler and Paul Funk led off the frame with back-to-back singles, which was followed with a surprise bunt single by Alex Brockpahler that loaded the bases for the Sebeka nine.

Josh Kinnunen kept the hit parade going with a RBI single to left-center which sent Rebel starter Mitch Negele from the mound.

Southland relief pitcher Chris May couldn’t cool off the Trojans red-hot bats as Pulju welcomed him with a single to right-center that scored Alex Brockpahler and Paul Funk. Peterson followed with a double to left field that scored Kinnunen, and a fielding error by the Rebel catcher on the play allowed Pulju to scoot across the final run of the frame.

Peterson highlighted Sebeka’s three-run sixth with a double, and the Trojans capped the scoring with a two-out, two run single in the seventh from Alex Brockpahler.

The senior right-hander also backed up his performance at the plate with seven solid innings on the mound. Brockpahler surrendered three earned runs on four hits and struck out seven to pick up his ninth win of the season.
