Track and Field: Numerous area track participants place at Daggett Invitational at Frazee

Area track and field teams converged in Frazee for the annual Daggett Invitational on Thursday with numerous individual participants garnering top placements for their respective school teams.

Amos Schmidt won the 110 and 300 meter hurdles and Kathy VanDenheuvel tied for second in the high jump for Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale. The Raider boys team finished sixth with 29 points while the girls were 11th with nine points.

Wadena-Deer Creek boys finished seventh with 26 points and were led by Dane Hoffman, who finished first in both the shot put and discus events. For the Lady Wolverines, Rachel Craig led the way with four individual placements in the 100 meter hurdles, shot put, discus and high jump. Hanna Toedter placed first in the 800 run and Emma Schmitz was second in the 3200. The Lady Wolverines finished sixth with 49 points.

United North Central had five individuals place in the top five with Alicia Boe and Jonathan Miller leading the way with first places in the 1600 runs. Tom Gruchow and Beth Tormanen placed second in the 400 and 300 meter hurdles respectively. Andrea Korvela was third in the girls 200 run.

The Lady Warriors also took first place in the 4x400 relay in 4:32.06 to finish seventh overall in the team standings (34 points) while the Warrior boys were ninth (24.5).

New York Mills’ Brittnie Menze won the girls shot put with a toss of 36’11” as the Lady Eagles finished 10th with 16 points.
