Prep Football: 2011 Minnesota Associated Press All-State Team announced

Mankato West senior quarterback Philip Nelson was voted Minnesota Player of the Year when the 2011 Minnesota Associated Press All-State high school football team was announced Tuesday.

Nelson completed 174 of 262 passes for 2,784 yards with 35 touchdowns, breaking the Scarlets' single-season records for yards and touchdown passes. He also rushed for 1,243 yards and 20 touchdowns this season.

The sixth-seed Pelican Rapids shut out third-seed Frazee en route to a 14-0 upset in the Section 8AA quarterfinals on Tuesday.
 
The Vikings turned the tables on the Hornets, establishing a strong running game while shutting down Frazee.
