Jake Lund (13) put forth a gallant effort on the hill for the 'Birds on Sunday but it wasn't quite enough to prevent Midway from getting eliminated in the opening round of the State Baseball Tournament. He struck out 15 batters in the 2-1 loss to St. Cloud Snappers. Lund is pictured attempting a sliding catch at right field during an earlier playoff game with Red Eye. It took 13-innings, but the Midway Snurdbirds threw a big gorilla off their backs Saturday night by defeating Lake & Pine rival Wolf Lake 6-5 in the elimination semi-finals at Al Kruger Field in Perham.

It was the first victory of the season for the Snurdbirds over the Wolf Pack in five tries.

The victory advances Midway to the Region 16C Championship game against Brandon/Evansville today (Sunday) at 2:30 p.m., also in Perham.

Both teams have already secured berths to the Minnesota Baseball Association State Amatuer Baseball Class C Tournament next weekend.
