Minnesota State forward Tyler Pitlick was selected by the Edmonton Oilers as the first pick in the second round (31st overall) of the 2010 National Hockey League Amateur Draft yesterday.

The Minnesota State baseball squad, ranked No. 11 in the nation, made its fifth appearance in the 2010 Division II NCAA Championship Tournament in program history against the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indiana.

In their 12th World Series game, the Mavericks suffered their ninth loss all-time at the national tournament by a score of 8-6 and are now 3-9 all-time.

The Minnesota State-Winona State Central Region playoff softball game in Colorado Springs was suspended in the top of the fourth inning due to rain and cold temperatures this afternoon. Both teams will resume action tomorrow morning (Saturday).

The second-seeded Minnesota State baseball squad, ranked fifteenth in the nation defeated the sixth-seeded St. Cloud State Huskies in come-from-behind fashion, 11-10.

The fifteenth-ranked Minnesota State baseball team (42-13), who are seeded #2 in the Centeral Region, defeated the third-seeded Mesa State Mavericks (37-19), 8-7 in eleven innings.

MSU started senior right-handed pitcher Pat Lenton who entered the game with a 9-3 record, a team-low and league leading 2.90 ERA and 75 punch outs, while Mesa State put sophomore righty Kyle Davis on the mound who entered the contest with a 7-0 record, a 4.75 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

The second-seeded Minnesota State Maverick baseball team, rated No. 15 in the nation, opened competition against the fifth-seeded Nebraska-Kearney Lopers in the NCAA Central Regional Baseball tournament held in Farmington, N.M. Thursday morning. The Mavericks defeated the Lopers, 6-1.

Minnesota State (40-15), the 2010 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champions, will make the program's 29th appearance in the NCAA Division II tournament when it participates in the NCAA Central Regional in Las Vegas, N.M., this week.

The first-seeded Minnesota State baseball team (38-13, 25-7 NSIC), who are ranked No.19 in the nation, defeated the fourth-seeded Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs, 6-5.

Minnesota Duluth manufactured a run in the first, junior Tyler Erickson was hit by a pitch, freshman Orry Engebretsen doubled and senior Will Dahlgren walked to load the bases. Sophomore Anders Engberg then grounded out to first, allowing Erickson to reach home, putting UMD up 1-0.
