Alicia Boe scored a game-high 21 points; Sam Welter added 19 and Hannah Rutten posted her 18th double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds to help top-seeded New York Mills breeze to a 58-49 victory over No. 2 Norman County East in the North Subsection 6A title game Tuesday night.

New York Mills shot 38 percent (25-for-66) from the field and converted 57 percent (12-for-21) from the charity stripe.

Boe also had eight rebounds, four assists and a team-high six steals. Brittnie Menze scored eight and Kendra McCall added four. Betsy Helmeke had a team-high five assists.

Hannah Rutten posted a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds and Alicia Boe scored 15 points, grabbed 11 boards and dished out a team-high nine assists as the top-seeded New York Mills Lady Eagles flew past eighth-seeded Park Christian 74-48 in the North Subsection 6A quarterfinals Thursday night.

Park Christian also countered with identical scorers with Haley Nickel posting 19 points and Mariah Charon 15 for the Falcons but New York Mills had a few more players that helped contribute to the playoff victory.

A total of 49 wrestlers from the Beyond the Bleachers coverage area garnered trips to the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament that starts on Wednesday and runs through Saturday.

Two of the three 2009 team champions return to defend their titles: the Simley Spartans in Class AA and the Apple Valley Eagles in Class AAA. Simley is looking for its third consecutive title, while Apple Valley is seeking its fifth straight title.

In the individual competition, 17 champions return for more gold medals—six in Class AAA, four in Class AA, and seven in Class A.

Alicia Boe scored a game-high 22 points for New York Mills in the 60-34 Park Region Conference win over the Pillager Huskies Friday.

The eighth-ranked Lady Eagles shot a cool 31 percent (19-for-61) from the floor but converted 59 percent (16-for-27) of their free-throws to snap the Huskies two-game win streak.

Both Hannah Rutten and Brittnie Menze each dropped 15 points for the Lady Eagles, who improved to 21-1.

Shauna Maurer scored a team-high 13 points for Pillager, which shot 26 percent (14-for-53) for the game and committed 26 turnovers in the loss.
