New York Mills pitcher Autumn Roberts (3) was nearly unhittable during the Lady Eagles' 10-0, six-inning victory over Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday. The sophomore gave up just three hits and did additional damage at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs.

Lake Park, Minn.—Charlie Peeters netted a game-high 18 points and Adam Snelgrove dropped in 16 points for ninth-seeded New York Mills during Monday’s 67-53 loss to Lake Park-Audubon in the North Subsection 6A playoff opener.

The ninth-seeded Eagles couldn’t overcome a 35-20 halftime deficit despite outscoring the eighth-seeded Raiders 33-32 in the second half.

In the sixth year of seeding the qualified teams, Hermantown was chosen No. 1 in Class A and Duluth East was chosen No. 1 in Class AA for the 2012 State Boys’ Hockey Tournament.

The Hawks of Hermantown qualified for the ninth time and are seeking their second state title. The Greyhounds of Duluth East are making their 19th trip to the tournament and are seeking their fourth state title.

All four teams return to defend their 2011 titles: Maranatha Christian Academy of Brooklyn Park in Class A, Braham in Class AA, DeLaSalle of Minneapolis in Class AAA, and Hopkins in Class AAAA.

All three of the 2011 team champions return to defend their respective titles: the Jackson County Central Huskies in Class A; the Simley Spartans in Class AA; and the Apple Valley Eagles in Class AAA. Jackson County Central, which tied Frazee for top honors in 2011, is looking for its third consecutive title. Simley of Inver Grove Heights is looking for its fifth consecutive title and Apple Valley is seeking its seventh consecutive title.

New York Mills, Minn.—Four Menahga players posted double figures during Friday’s 75-52 Park Region Conference victory over New York Mills.

Tanner Schwartz scored 19 points; Markus Tolkkinen totaled 15 with Stetson Burkman adding 12 and Austen Schwartz 10 for the Braves, which had 10 players contribute to the scoring.
