Pillager quarterback Jordan Hunstad threw New York Mills under the bus to help Huskies roll to a 36-14 Prairie Conference victory Wednesday night.

After Tanner Wegscheid scored on a two-yard run to give the host Eagles the early lead in the first quarter, Hunstad took over the drivers seat by returning the ensuing kickoff 82 yards for a touchdown. He also ran in the conversion points for the Huskies 8-6 lead and Pillager went into overdrive for the rest of the night.

New York Mills scored 13 points in the fourth quarter but fell short to the Parkers Prairie Panthers 18-13 in Prairie Conference action Friday night.

“I was happy with way we came back in the fourth quarter,” New York Mills’ head coach Matt Radniecki said. “We didn't give up and lay down, but we kept fighting and working hard.”

The game featured some big plays and missed opportunities from both teams, but the Panthers made theirs count to notch their first win of the season.

New York Mills head coach Matt Radniecki didn’t mince words after his Eagles were pounded 49-0 by host the Osakis Silverstreaks in Prairie Conference football action Friday night.

“There is not much to say other than we got the tar kicked out of us.” He said. “Osakis was a very physical football team and we didn't match their intensity and physical play at all.”

Both teams came in with identical 1-3 records, but Osakis had the extra motivation to win because it was the Silverstreaks’ homecoming game.

The last time New York Mills savored the sweet taste of victory came when the Eagles defeated Upsala-Swanville Area 21-13 to start off the 2007 season.

New York Mills wouldn’t win again until nearly three years and 26 games later.

The Eagles put together an overall strong game—both offensively and defensively—and reached into their bag of tricks to finally get the gorilla off their back with the 26-13 Prairie Conference victory over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg Friday.
