New York Mills, Minn.—The New York Mills girls basketball team rebounded nicely from the shellacking from Wadena-Deer Creek in the season opener by pounding the Pillager Huskies 60-40 during Tuesday’s Park Region Conference game.

“Tonight was a good game for us,” said New York Mills head coach JJ Weller. “It was a total team effort.”

Tarah Cleveland dropped a game-high 26 points and 12 steals to help lead Menahga to a 69-41 Park Region Conference victory over New York Mills 69-41 on Monday.

The Lady Braves raced out to a 16-2 lead at the start of the first half before New York Mills would work their way back into the game. The Lady Eagles were able to get within four points by halftime, 29-25.

Ellie Rutten posted career high numbers to help New York Mills snap a seven-game losing streak with the 71-68 overtime victory over Park Christian during a section girls basketball game Tuesday night.

The eighth-grader scored a team-high 26 points and hauled down 15 boards for her first-ever double-double as the Lady Eagles survived a wild second half finish.

Sari Noga scored a game-high 30 points and Parkers Prairie used a flurry of three-pointers to clip New York Mills 66-47 in the Section 6A championship game Friday night.

New York Mills kept pace with the fifth-ranked Panthers until the final five minutes of the first half. Kaylee Dorn hit a three-pointer and Parkers Prairie erupted for a 20-3 run en route to the 34-18 lead at halftime.

Parkers Prairie ended up knocking down nine three-pointers in the game (56 percent) with the Noga sisters each notching three apiece.
