New York Mills pitcher Autumn Roberts (3) was nearly unhittable during the Lady Eagles' 10-0, six-inning victory over Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday. The sophomore gave up just three hits and did additional damage at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and 3 RBIs.

The Eagles of New Life Academy of Woodbury in Class A and the Pirates of Park Center, Brooklyn Park, in Class AA return to defend their respective titles. A new champion will emerge in Class AAA because Burnsville, which won in 2010, failed to qualify for this year’s tournament.

Verndale couldn’t hold on to a lead in one game and committed too many errors in another as New York Mills swept the Lady Pirates by scores of 6-5 and 16-6 in a Park Region Conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

Morgan Clements delivered a pair of big hits to propel Menahga past New York Mills in a Park Region Conference doubleheader sweep on Tuesday.

The Lady Braves erupted for 10 runs in the second inning of the first game to pick up the 13-3 victory in five innings. Menahga starting pitcher Lindsey White backed her nine-strikeout performance with a pair of hits, including a two-run double that ignited the Lady Braves in the second inning.

Jenna Esala was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and Autumn Roberts went 3-for-4 with a double as fifth-seeded New York Mills survived a 9-7 slugfest with fourth-seeded Pillager in the quarterfinals of the South Subsection 6A playoffs Tuesday.

Both teams combined to belt out 22 hits in the playoff opener.

With the game tied at 1-1, the Lady Eagles erupted for five runs in third inning, then scored single runs in the fourth and fifth to build a 8-1 lead.

New York Mills continued their late season resurgence by winning both games of the Park Region Conference doubleheader against Sebeka on Thursday.

The Lady Eagles belted out 16 hits and collected four doubles to hand the Lady Trojans a 9-4 defeat in the opener.

New York Mills had each player in the order garner at least a hit with Jenna Esala doing the most damage at the plate. The sophomore went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs while Samantha Welter also scattered three hits and had a double.

The New York Mills girls softball team won both games by identical 5-2 scores over Pillager and Frazee to claim the Lady Hornet Softball Invitational on Saturday.

EmaLeigh Roberts went 3-for-4 and belted three doubles as the Lady Eagles pounded out 13 hits to win the opener over the Huskies.

In what turns out to be a controversial rally killer in the sixth inning, Wadena-Deer Creek runner Jessica Wegscheid (3) touches home while New York Mills catcher Jenna Esala hauls in the putout throw in front of the plate. However, the home umpire ruled Wegscheid out.

Crystal Haskin went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead the Verndale Lady Pirates to an 11-1 victory in the first game of the Park Region Conference doubleheader on Tuesday.

New York Mills countered with Jenna Esala in winning the nightcap. The sophomore catcher went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles as the Lady Eagles picked up the 7-1 win for the doubleheader split.

Verndale erupted for nine runs in the fifth inning to end the opener via the 10-run rule. Jenny Swenson highlighted the frame with her two-run double and Haskin also added a run with a double.

Micaela Lausten hit a two-run shot in the sixth in the first game but the New York Mills Lady Eagles were swept by Bertha-Hewitt in the Park Region Conference doubleheader Thursday.

Lausten’s lone hit capped the Lady Eagles scoring in the opening game.

RaeAnna Salo tallied New York Mills’ first run in the third inning with a RBI single that scored Autumn Roberts for the short-lived 1-0 lead.

Bertha-Hewitt tied the game up in the fourth and then exploded for five runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cruise to the 11-3 victory.
